Materials You Need:
- Latex modifier
- Concrete mix
- Concrete resurfacer
Step 1: On both sides of the cracked concrete, make a groove cut
Before doing anything else, make sure that you wear your dust mask and the proper safety equipment. Once you are adequately protected, you will cut a half-inch deep groove on each side of the crack using the diamond blade on your circular saw. You may use a fan to blow out the concrete dust.
Step 2: Remove the cracked concrete slab
Using a maul and cold chisel, you can chip out the cracked part of the concrete slab. You have to clean around the edges of what you initially cut in step 1. The spot you will work on must be free from all loose concrete chips. You may vacuum this new surface before power-washing.
Step 3: Fill the newly made surface with concrete mix
Create a mixture of latex modifier and concrete mix, and then pour it into the cracked surface. It must fill about half an inch of the original height. After which, you will leave it for a few days to solidify before you fill it up with the resurfacer. This is a crucial step because you will be building a strong foundation for the resurfacer.
Step 4: Finish up with the resurfacer
Once you are certain your initial surface has solidified, you may now finish by adding the resurfacer to the remainder of the groove. Your resurfacer mixture may make use of water to achieve a pancake batter consistency. Using the trowel, smooth out the edges and ensure that the surface is evenly flat.
With this easy process, your concrete slab will be fixed in no time. On the other hand, you must take note that this method will only work if your concrete slab is cracked evenly and there is no soil underneath it. If one side is higher than the other, then it is best to call an expert and fix the underlying problem. Nevertheless, this is still an effective solution on how to repair a cracked concrete slab.
